People ask me, why is my focus so much on Groups, when the whole world is focusing on “the Individual” – Leadership Development, Coaching, Counselling, Trainings, Workshops, etc. etc. My well-wishers tell me, there is a lot of money that can be earned in the stream of Individual development, as organisations and HR departments already have budgets allocated for the same.
My response to that is, true there is indeed a lot of focus on the Individual we have today in our development profession and indeed there is a lot of value in that too. I myself have gained tremendously by the endless trainings, Labs, Coaching and Therapy sessions I have attended.
At the same time, I also believe that system wide changes can only be brought in when we focus on the group and not just on the Individual. …
